Voice for Girls
What is the role for PARENTS, ADULTS and COMMUNITY LEADERS?
Our GIRLS need your help! Act now, and ask yourself – what have I done today to improve the life of a girl? Girls are great leaders and have a powerful capability to Take Action to make their world a better place. As adults we must work to prepare our communities to receive their voice, stay current on issues impacting our youth, and support their Advocacy efforts by raising our voices in unison with them. Much like our girls do we must:
- Discover issues that impact GIRLS through research and inquiry
- Connect with our family, friends, neighbors and policy makers and
- Take Action in support of youth to ensure that they may develop as happy, healthy and resourceful citizens with the courage, confidence, and character to make the world a better place.
How can I get involved?
Are you ready to Take Action to make the world a better place for girls? There are many ways to get involved in Advocacy through Girl Scouts. Each person has a unique interest and contribution to our Take Action efforts. Explore some ideas below and see if one may fit your interest. If you do not find one that fits your interest below contact our Advocacy department at ourvoice@gsneny.org for other ideas about how you might become involved!
- Policy Influencing – Join the Girl Scouts Advocacy Network. This network makes it simple to keep up to date on legislation supported or introduced by Girl Scouts at the National level. It also offers opportunities for you to instantly identify your representative and to lend your support by email or letter, choosing to either customize or send a form letter in a matter of moments.
- Community Roundtables – Join a community roundtable in your area! These roundtables are held 2-3 times per year in local communities. They are aimed at casual two way communication between Girl Scouts of Northeastern New York and the community about issues impacting girls such as healthy media images, relational aggression, and eating disorders. If you are interested in joining or supporting a community roundtable in your area contact our Advocacy department at ourvoice@gsneny.org.
