On behalf of the Girl Scouts of Northeastern New York Council, I have serious reservations about the location of the proposed casino in East Greenbush. The proposed site is located approximately 300 feet from our well-known, 104-acre Girl Scout Camp Is-Sho-Da.
The prospect of an adult entertainment facility, namely the casino, within such close proximity to our camp has raised many concerns about higher volumes of traffic, increased noise levels, elevated light illumination at night, an obstructed view with the existence of a 12-story hotel as well as the safety of the girls, troop leaders and camp counselors.
For more than 50 years, we have provided outdoor programs for tens of thousands of girls from East Greenbush, Rensselaer County and the Capital Region in a location that is convenient and easily accessible. In the event this casino is approved and built on the proposed site, we believe that attendance and use of our camp will drop significantly as a direct result of a diminished camp experience arising from the presence of a casino.
On behalf of the thousands of girls and adults served by Girl Scouts of Northeastern New York, I urge the Town of East Greenbush and the Town Council to reconsider its resolution in support a casino.
