This $500 award is given annually to a high school junior or senior who excels in community service. Pizzola has completed more than 500 hours of community service as a member of her high school’s SADD and Key Club chapters, and as a peer leader in the elementary school. She has also participated in walks for cancer, diabetes and drug awareness, and is an altar server in her church.
Pizzola received the Girl Scout’s Gold Award for sponsoring softball clinics that raised $28,000 to renovate the Maple Hill varsity softball field. She also received the Girl Scout’s Silver Award for creating a landscaping plan for a Habitat for Humanity home in Albany.
This award qualifies Pizzola to compete for the Zonta District 2 Jean M. Coon award.
Jean M. Coon was a distinguished lawyer who argued in many precedent-setting cases in the New York State Court of Appeals. She was an active member of Zonta and shortly after her death in 1983, a scholarship was established in her name.
