SARATOGA SPRINGS — The Gerald B.H. Solomon Freedom Foundation has given Gold Award scholarships totaling $10,000 to 40 area Girl Scouts.

Foundation Chairman Dante Orsini of South Glens Falls presented certificates and a check for $250 to each girl during ceremonies held Sunday at Longfellows Restaurant in Saratoga Springs.

Orsini worked for the late U.S. Rep. Gerald B.H. Solomon, for whom the foundation is named.

Saratoga County residents who received scholarships are Chloe Boutelle, Rebecca Chillrud, Hannah Gebhard, Emily Walton and Abby Wise of Saratoga Springs; Brianna Arnold of Galway; Caitlin Herren, Lauren Ketring, Danyelle Ketring and Grace Segrave of Gansevoort; Christiana and Ashley St. Dennis of Schuylerville; and Paulina Pascual and Brianne Schofield of Clifton Park.

“This is the Girl Scouts’ highest award,” Girl Scouts of Northeastern New York spokeswoman Linda Stephen said. “It’s an earned award. Only 6 percent of all Girl Scouts earn it.”

Girl Scouts of America is celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2012.
